CRUX - THE SYMBOL OF THE CROSS
3 August 2013 - 31 October 2013
It often appears as the most important symbol and sign of the Christian religion, but it also plays an important role in profane life - the cross. The Südtiroler Künstlerbund and the Diocesan Museum of Bressanone are now focusing on this symbol in the exhibition "CRUX - The Symbol of the Cross".
The aim of the exhibition is both to gain a current view of the significance of the cross and to take a historical look at it.

Numerous artists from South and North Tyrol responded to the call for entries by the Südtiroler Künstlerbund. The projects submitted were intended both to show how the symbol of the cross is dealt with and to take a current look at the meaning of the cross. Of the projects submitted, 30 were selected by the curator of the exhibition, Prof. Dr. Markus Neuwirth.
The exhibition is supplemented with a selection of historical objects and works by modern artists who have already passed away.

The Hofburg Brixen is dedicating one of the two reopened Brixen rooms to the artist, who died last year and would have celebrated his 90th birthday on 7 April this year. On display are works that have a special connection to Martin Rainer's adopted hometown of Brixen.
